How to Change the Election Cycle

Introduction

As your campaign evolves from cycle to cycle, you can configure how a specific candidate's support status is processed. This allows you to keep all of your flag data intact through many election cycles, but generate support status counts based on a single or multiple election cycles. The most common example would be transitioning from a primary election cycle to a general election cycle.

Saving Previously Collected Flags

Before elections are changed, it is important to save previously captured flags into static lists, so your organization can have access to previously captured data, without having to constantly changing your election cycle. Below is a tutorial on creating a saved list with support flags, but this tutorial can be used to make saved list of any flag data just by changing the flag value used in the saved list.

Creating a Saved List

  1. Click on the Universe & Lists dropdown then select Create Universes.
  2. Click on the Advanced Universe Query Builder tab.
  3. Click on the My Flags tab and then the My Flag Data sub-tab.
  4. Use the drop down menu in the Candidate/Issue section to select the candidates flags you want to save in the list.
  5. Activate the Strong Support (Yes) check box. (This can be substituted for any support status.)
  6. Click the Add Criteria button.
  7. Click on the Save Universe button and then name the universe.
  8. Activate the Save as Static List check box.
  9. Click the Save button.

How to Change Election Date

Changing the election date is the next step of the transitioning process. Changing the election date is different from changing the election cycle of a candidate/issue. Changing the election date will update everything in the account, except for the flags, while changing the election cycle of a candidate only affects which support statuses can be accessed in the account. The election date also determines the election cycle of your support statuses.

Changing the Election Date

  1. Click on the Admin dropdown and select Account Settings.
  2. Use the Set Account Election Cycle To drop down menu to select the proper election cycle.
  3. Click the Save button.
  4. Log out of your PDI account.
  5. Log back in to your PDI account.

How to Change the Election Cycle

Note: The election date has to be updated to the current cycle to complete this process. If you have not already done so, please review the How to Change the Election Date section above.

Changing the election allows users to display or hide previously collected support statuses from there account. These options can be activated or deactivated at anytime. Below is a tutorial on transitioning an account from a primary election to a general election. Multiple election cycles can activated at the same.

  1. Click on the Admin dropdown and select Flags/Surveys.
  2. Click the link of the candidates/issue that will have its election cycle changed.
  3. In the Election Cycle section activate the election date, which has the flags you either want to view, or add new flags too. (Activated election cycles are highlighted.)
  4. In the Election Cycle deactivate the election date, which has the flags you want to hide. (Deactivated election cycles are not highlighted.)
  5. Click the Save button.
