What Happens To My PDI Account After Election Day?

Win, lose, ballot curing or recount, once Election Day has passed, there can often be a lot of work still to be done in your PDI account. For seasonal campaigns, your PDI account will remain active for thirty (30) after your Election Day. This time is commonly used to send thank you messages to your supporters and properly close your account for the season. In cases of ballot curing or a recount, you may need to actively use the account for additional outreach or analysis.

This guide will walk you through the process of closing your PDI account and answer any questions you may have.  Here are a few of the key points:

  1. Your account will expire 30 days after your campaign Election Day.
  2. All active users will continue to have access for the 30-day post-election period. We do, however, highly recommend removing users who are no longer associated with your campaign.
  3. You will be able to export all your proprietary flags and people database information.  If you entered the data, you will be able to export the data. Voter data exports are NOT permitted by California State Law and PDI data policy.
  4. You will have a designated allowance of outreach exports for sending thank you messages to your supporters, staff and donors.  The amount of the export allowance is based on the count of the folks identified in your account as of your Election Day.
  5. PDI may continue to process a few post-election early vote updates, ballot curing updates, or voter file updates during the 30-day post-election period if/when available.
  6. PDI may post the vote history for your campaign election during the 30-day post-election period if/when available.

What happens to my PDI account after Election Day?
Nothing significant will change with your PDI account until your subscription term ends 30 days after your campaign Election Day. Everything will appear the same, however, your campaign will no longer be able to generate output files for direct mail, field canvassing, phone canvassing, or texting under the payment terms for the recent election. The files can be purchased, if necessary, using your account authorization code.

In past elections, PDI would automatically deactivate lower-level user accounts (non-account owners) as part of our Post-Election Mode. We are no longer initiating this process and ask our clients to responsibly manage who should and should not have access to your PDI after Election Day.

Will my account continue to receive ballot returns after Election Day?

We may be posting returned ballots in a limited number of counties after Election Day when available. These counties would include Contra Costa, Fresno, Los Angeles, Marin, Monterey, Napa, Orange, Riverside, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Solano.

Does PDI provide ballot curing data?

Yes. Ballot curing data is available upon request in around 20 counties throughout the state. This data is posted as a model and identifies mail ballots that were not accepted due to a missing signature or unaccepted signature match. Campaigns are allowed to help voters correct these issues within the legal guideline using the ballot curing data.

When will the final vote history for the election be available?

While election results are released within the certification period after an election. The process of identifying each voter who casts a ballot is a much bigger and more time-consuming task. In the best-case scenario, a few counties will provide the vote history as soon as 6 weeks after Election Day. We do not expect, however, to have the entire state updated until 9-10 weeks after Election Day.

What happens to my data after my account subscription ends?
After your subscription ends, we shut down access to your account but archive your data for you to use in future elections. There is no additional charge for this service and we do not use or share this data with any other entities unless you specifically make such a request.

Can my account be extended for analysis when the full election vote history is available?

Yes. Contact your PDI representative about extending your account for a brief period after your subscription period ends.

Can my account be extended if I do not have a pending election?
Definitely. PDI offers an off-cycle subscription at a low price for elected office holders. This subscription level allows you to keep your campaign account active between campaign seasons. Please contact your PDI account representative for details.

Can I export the flag and contact data I acquired in my account?
You can easily export all your IDs by going to the People Menu Option → Import/Export → Export All Flags. A file containing every flag recorded by your account will be generated and copied to your default file pickup folder. No personal voter information is included in the file, but there are voter ID fields that will allow the data to be associated with a future voter file.

How can I view and pay any outstanding PDI invoices?
You can view and pay invoices by going to the Admin Menu Option → PDI Billing Center → Review and Pay Invoices page. If you have any questions, please contact us at billing@politicaldata.com.
