What is a bar code scanning wand for?
A bar code scanning wand is used to collect the unique PDI ID number assigned to each voter.
Why would I scan voter ID numbers?
Collecting voter ID numbers allows a campaign to quickly capture information on voters. The PDI ID number is the only data field that will identify one voter for each field value.
How do I scan barcoded reports into Online Campaign Center?
For help with scanning bar coded reports in the Online Campaign Center, please refers to the online help page within the program.
What do I do if the barcodes are not scanning?
When a barcode is scanned, users should hear a beep and see the PDI ID number that was just scanned. If neither of these conditions occur after scanning a barcode from a walk or phone list, the program is not reading the barcode.
The most common reason is the bar code device is not correctly installed. Most bar code devices are plug and play but need to inserted into a USB port. The easiest method for checking a barcode device is scanning a barcode into Excel or Word. If it appears in Excel or Word, it will appear in the program. You can then rule out this cause. If the bar code does not appear in Word or Excel, try scanning any product bar code. You can scan the barcode on the bottled water or bag of chips on your desk. If it appears in Excel or Word, the problem is most likely associated with printed bar code.
Is the scanner correctly installed?
Try scanning product bar code in a common program such as word, Excel, Notepad, Wordpad.
Is the printed bar code readable?
-
- If a scanner works on product bar codes and not your list bar codes, check the following items:
-
Check the Font Size – Is the Print too small? Try enlarging the font size.
-
Check the Print Scaling – Are you reducing the print size in the program’s print options?
-
Check the Print Quality – Do the bar code have solid straight black lines? Try a different printer or toner cartridge.
If neither of these option work and you are still unable to scan barcodes, you should contact PDI product support.
Where or how can I get a bar code wand?
